POSITION: Communications Manager

ABOUT THE JOB: The Communications Coordinator is part of the Advancement Team and is responsible to convey all internal and external messages for an elementary and middle school. Essential to build and maintain relationships within the community at St. Luke’s School as well as with alumni and alumni parents. Oversee all communication with constituencies, including faculty, staff, students, Upper School and Lower School parents, alumni and alumni parents by publishing newsletters and press releases. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Support the St. Luke’s School mission, values, institutional goals, and educational philosophy.
  • Work directly with Director of Advancement and be a steward of all St. Luke’s School messaging and branding.
  • Manage internal and external communications including press releases, social media presence of school and alumni pages.
  • Manage the school website. Including overseeing the school’s website redesign, writing and creating content, and website updates and maintenance.
  • Write and edit communications for St. Luke’s School, including print and electronic newsletters, marketing content, alumni newsletter, and other communication pieces. 
  • Create and update communications calendar that coordinates all internal and external communications throughout the year.
  • Coordinate with videographer as needed and create internal slideshows after major events.
  • Cover school activities and photograph school events.
  • Plan and execute 75th anniversary celebration.
  • Engage and build relationships with alumni and alumni parents.
  • Develop annual communication plan for alumni and alumni parents.
  • Establish an alumni reunion program.
  • Recruit alumni volunteers for the anniversary celebration, St. Luke’s school events, and future engagements.
  • Other duties as required.
  • English Language - Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Active Listening- Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Critical Thinking- Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. 
  • Active Learning- Understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making. Model and embrace life-long learning.

Essential Functions

  • Contact and communication with students, faculty/staff, alumni, and parents on a regular basis. Contact and communication consist of face-to-face discussions, e-mail, phone calls, letters, and memos.
  • Participate in a variety of duties, including but not limited to lunch, recess, supervision of children in transition, morning bus duty, dismissal duty, etc. May be required to be outside in cold weather.
  • Participate in and attend faculty and staff meetings as requested by the senior administration.
  • Participate in the life of the school, including attendance at events as requested by the Director of Advancement or other senior administration.
  • Be present at the school during the required work hours.
  • Be able to stand for long periods of time and carry equipment such as cameras and lenses while taking photos at events.
  • Be able to sit for long periods of time in front of a computer while editing and creating communications and marketing materials.
  • Be flexible with work hours in order to attend early events and/or evening and weekend
