AVAILABLE POSITION: Director of Learning Services

The Director of Learning Services oversees the learning services programs in our school, and works with faculty, students, parents and administrators to promote the multiple learning styles and experiences of our students.  The Director of Learning Services maintains coherence, consistency, and continuity of our learning resources program and responds to issues relevant to the academic, social, and emotional well-being of students. The Director of Learning Services is part of the administrative team and reports to the Division Heads.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Leading the near-term and strategic planning for learning services at St. Luke’s School.
  • Acting as the public face of the JK-8 learning services department, communicating effectively with colleagues, students, parents, and other constituencies about the department’s philosophy, vision, and program.
  • Promoting the professional development of learning specialists and faculty on the diverse learning styles of students and relevant supports, and serving as a resource for all specialists, classroom teachers, and administrators about best instructional practice for students with special learning needs.
  • Coordinating, collaborating, and facilitating horizontal and vertical communication and alignment between and among Division Heads, deans, faculty, parents, and students, including reading and interpreting professional evaluations and identifying appropriate accommodations.
  • Keeping abreast of changes and advancements within the field of special education, differentiating of instruction, and instructional best practices to foster, design and initiate innovative systems and structures for supporting students’ learning needs.
  • Embracing and promoting a strength-based approach to teaching and learning.
  • Supporting faculty and staff in understanding and applying protocols for looking at student work, descriptive inquiry, etc.
  • Supervising and evaluating two full-time learning specialists and coordinating communication with tutors.
  • Providing direct learning and support services to students. 



  • Advanced degree in special education or a related field

  • Sustained, successful leadership in the field of learning differences.


  • Demonstrated skills in communication and interpersonal relations within and across multiple constituencies, including the capacity to build trust and collaborate effectively with parents and colleagues

  • Deep knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices for children with a range of abilities

POSITION REPORTS TO: Head of Lower School and Head of Upper School

SALARY: Salary placement is based on experience and according to our salary scale.
