Associate Teacher Expectations


  •  Teach at least one unit of study.
  •  Lead math and reading groups.
  • Collaborate with specialist teachers in developing integrated units of study. May be required to assist in classes such as library, dance, music, etc.
  • Write a weekly newsletter to be distributed each Friday.
  • Meet regularly with the Lead Teacher to discuss professional goals, expectations, and curriculum/teaching assignments. Meeting schedules are determined in collaboration with the Lead Teacher.
  • Meet regularly with the Assistant Lower School Head and other Associates. Meeting schedules are determined by the Assistant Lower School Head. 


Tasks & Responsibilities


  • Establish and communicate expectations for behavior and classroom management among the students.
  • Observe and assess students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
  • Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities. Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicate those objectives to students.
  • Instruct students individually and in groups, using various teaching methods such as discussions, demonstrations, and projects. Prepare and implement differentiation for students of various learning abilities.
  • Confer and meet with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve students' behavioral and academic concerns. Partner with parents on their child's progress to determine priorities and resources needed.
  • Enforce school policies and rules with students.
  • Collaborate with other professional staff in the development, evaluation, and revision of programs and curriculum.
  • Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of equipment and materials to prevent injuries and damage.
  • Participate in and manage students on school field trips. This includes off-site locations and overnight trips.
  • Participate and attend faculty meetings and committees.
  • Participate in the life of the school, including attendance at required events: faculty meetings, curriculum night, parent conferences, grade-level cocktail party, Christmas Fair, Spring Benefit, and school games and events.
  • Be present at the school during the required work hours.                       


Essential Functions


  • Teaching and speaking to students for the full school day.
  • Contact and communication with students, faculty/staff, and parents on a regular basis. Contact and communication consists of face-to-face discussions, e-mail, phone calls, letters, report cards, and memos.
  • Timeliness and ability to meeting deadlines including but not limited to report writing and curriculum planning.
  • Support the St. Luke’s School mission, values, institutional goals, and educational philosophy. Understanding and commitment to the community standards of compassion, dignity, excellence, honesty, and respect. 


Knowledge & Skills


  • Tools & Technology: Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite including Google classroom. Ability to us classroom technology such as Smart Boards.
  • English Language: Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Education and Training: Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and teaching and instruction for individuals and groups.
  • Social Emotional Learning (SEL): Knowledge of techniques and strategies.
  • Active Learning: Commitment to life-long learning and participation in professional and personal growth.
  • Active Listening: Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Critical Thinking: Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Learning Strategies: Selecting and using training/instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation when learning or teaching new things.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education or
  • Bachelor’s Degree with a Master;s Degree or enrollment in a Master’s Program in Education

  • 2 years teaching experience
